I am not an animal lover and before you start to boo and hiss let me tell you why. First of all, I am a single parent with 2 active kids, I have a business to run, house to clean, volunteer association to tend to, and other day to day activities to do....I don’t have time to take care of a dog. So, before you string me up and throw me out, first recognize that I am just being sensible- I know my limits...you wouldn't want me to neglect a dog would you?
All of that being said, and my friends erasing my phone number from their speed dial cause I don’t want to go to the dog park, I want to bring your attention to an interesting thought. More than 1/2 a billions US households own at least one dog. 42% of dog owners share a bed with their pooch and 1/3 of owners buy their furry loved one a birthday present..
In 2005, American's spent $160 million dollars on pet health insurance.
And last year, more than $18 Billion dollars were spent on veterinarian care.
I wonder how many of these pooch owners have health insurance for their bodies? What is the tipping point here....I know you love your dog and want to keep it healthy but what about your own health?
I'm not saying that we should let our pets suffer but the next time you complain about spending $30 in a copayment for your blood pressure drugs, I want you remember that you spent $300 at the vet clinic for your 4 legged friend.
I'm just saying....

you wrote: "More than 1/2 a billions US households own at least one dog." huh? i know you work with numbers so maybe the computer slipped a decimal point into the wrong place. but that number would mean more than 500 MILLION households have a dog ... dear woman, we only have a few over 300 million people in this land and since some of them live in the same house, that means there are FEWER than 300 million households, not MORE than 500 million.
also, i think you ought to show a little respect for folks who used to sell pet insurance (like me, really!!) i had to give it up because taking some of them to lunch was a real task. the bulldogs always wanted to go to cheddars restaurant and, of course, the chihuahuas wanted Taco Bell. in those days austin didn't have a good french restaurant and the french poodles would always get haughty when i'd suggest we have a drink at the hawk & dove bar instead. or maybe they were just insecure.
